Toilet smashed and Sandymere base flooded following ‘mindless attack’.

The chairman of Bideford Blues and Appledore Junior FC has blasted 'mindless vandals' who damaged the clubhouse at Sandymere on Wednesday night.

Alan McKenzie is appealing to the community to help trace those who broke into the complex, used by more than 300 five-to-16-year-old children.

He said: "They broke into one of the dressing rooms and absolutely obliterated one of the toilet cisterns - they smashed it to pieces.

"The water was running all night and it flooded the changing room.

"In recent weeks, we've had a little bit of a problem with people trespassing on the artificial pitches and leaving rubbish but this is the first time we've had any serious vandalism in the 17 years we've been here.

"If anyone saw anything, please get in touch with the police or contact the club directly."

Police confirmed that the clubhouse was broken into overnight on March 10. Anyone with any information is asked to call 101 quoting reference CR01566016.
