Van driver escapes Torrington bridge plunge

A VAN driver had a lucky escape after his vehicle careered off a bridge outside Torrington on Wednesday night.

The van plunged five metres from the bridge and onto the roof of a building below at Orford Mill on the A386.

The unharmed driver had escaped the wreckage before fire crews from Torrington and Bideford arrived at around 7.53pm. The van was recovered from the roof of the outbuilding using a crane.

Police said they were investigating the incident.
