AN unusual piece of lost property has been handed in to police at Ilfracombe in the form of an urn of human ashes.

It was found by a member of the public at the top end of Sandy Lane in Woolacombe on September 14 and officers would like to return the remains to loved ones if possible.

The urn has no name on it but is about a foot high, coloured brown and made of a metallic material, with a screw down lid.

PC Malcolm Kirk, who collected the urn, said the person who found it had carefully set it beside a gateway but it was unclear where it had been originally.
