BURGLARS made off with around £400 in cash during a raid on a take-away in Barnstaple in the early hours of this morning (Thursday).

Offenders smashed the front window of Sonia’s Takeaway in Forches Avenue shortly after midnight.

They are understood to have fled the scene in a dark coloured Vauxhall, possibly ‘L’ registered.

Owner Maria Brazão said she heard a loud noise and threw on her dressing gown to investigate.

Maria said she was ‘shocked and saddened’ after 15 years without incident.

“I’ve been here for 15 years and have never had to call the police once.
