Area cordoned off as police wait for bomb disposal to arrive
Northam Burrows has been cordoned off and the bomb squad are enroute after an explosive mine was discovered this afternoon (Saturday).
A man found the ancient ordnance while using his metal detector on the pebble ridge behind the old dump and Greysands.
He reports about six police cars are in attendance and the Burrows have been blocked off while they wait for bomb disposal to travel to the scene.
He said the suspected mine was about 10 inches across and some five inches deep, with a flat bottom and corrugated sides, featuring a lump on the top.
Update: The object turned out to be an old lorry wheel.
