Update: Second arrest in sexual assault inquiry

Police appeal for witnesses

A second man has been arrested by police investigating an alleged sexual assault in Barnstaple yesterday (Monday).

A man in his 20s was taken into custody last night following reports that a woman in her 20s had been sexually assaulted in the Old Sticklepath Hill area.

Following further inquiries, a second man in his 30s was arrested this morning in connection with the investigation and is also in custody in Barnstaple.

It was at around 6.50pm last night that officers went to the area following a report of a sexual assault. Scenes of crime officers also attended to carry out a forensic investigation, which continued today.

The woman involved in the incident is being supported by specially trained officers.
