Suspect is still be quizzed following Parracombe shooting

A MAN arrested on suspicion of killing his wife with a shot gun remains in police custody this morning (Tuesday).

A woman, named locally as Jennie Leeman, 44, was found shot dead on farmland at Parracombe on Sunday afternoon.

Around 30 police officers, including armed response officers and a police helicopter, were called to a remote property at Higher Cowley Farm after reports of a domestic incident.

A police spokesman said: “On arrival, police found the body of a woman aged in her forties in the grounds of the property having sustained apparent gunshot wounds.

“A man in his 50s was located and arrested on suspicion of murder.”

The premises were cordoned off and police crime investigators began a forensic examination of the scene that continued for much of Monday.

Police have also conducted high visibility patrols within the Parracombe area to offer reassurance to residents but said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Officers said the incident was “extremely rare”, and were working with the community to allay any concerns that residents may have.

The suspect, believed to be the victim’s husband David Leeman, 59, is still assisting officers with their enquiries. He had not been charged.
