Police have confirmed a 58-year-old man has died after a fall from Ilfracombe pier this afternoon (Monday). He was rushed to hospital by the ambulance service following the fall just before 2.30pm. Initial reports said he had suffered severe injuries and was treated at Ilfracombe Lifeboat Station. An investigation is now underway to find out what happened and the Marine Accident Investigation Branch will also begin its own enquiry. Police said it was unclear at this stage why the man had fallen.
