IT is thought the man found dead in Ilfracombe Harbour this morning was a local commercial fisherman.

Although no formal identification has been made, the body recovered at about 8.30am has been named locally as trawlerman Jamie Barbeary.

Mr Barbeary was found by a member of the public near the lifeboat station. Police, coastguard and fire services were alerted by South Western Ambulance Service.

It is thought Mr Barbeary may have fallen from the harbour wall and investigators are trying to establish when he was last seen alive.
