Update: Arrest over alleged bakery robbery

Police have arrested a 44-year-old man following an alleged armed robbery in Barnstaple on Wednesday.

A 44-year-old man from Forches estate was arrested on Friday in connection with an alleged armed robbery from Warrens bakery.

The man was arrested at 10pm and was later released on police bail to return to Barnstaple Police Station on Friday.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when it was alleged a man entered the store, demanded money from the safe and made off with a quantity of cash just after 4.30pm.

The suspect was described as being a white man aged 25-40 of stocky build. He is thought to be between 5ft 8 and 5ft 11.

He was thought to have been wearing dark clothing and possibly a light coloured woollen hat at the time of the robbery.

Officers are looking to speak to anyone who was in the Boutport Street area around 4.30pm or saw the suspect in question.
