Work to repair storm-damaged embankment finished ahead of schedule.

A SEVEN-mile section of the A377 at Umberleigh re-opened last night (Thursday) following a seven-week closure.

Urgent repairs to the embankment at Kingford Bridge were finished ahead of schedule, although temporary traffic lights are still in place due to unrelated works by South West Water.

The road closed in early September and motorists faced long diversions via South Molton.

At the time, Devon County Council estimated the work would take until the end of October for contractors to build a new retaining wall along part of an embankment damaged during the winter storms.
