Daybreak Emergency Services Award for RNLI rescue team that saved a woman’s life

The RNLI Flood Rescue Team who saved a woman in the Umberleigh floods last Christmas has won the Daybreak Emergency Services Award as part of the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards 2013.

The team - made up of Paul Eastment, Chris Missen and Martin Blaker-Rowe - were rewarded live on ITV1’s ‘Daybreak’ on Friday morning for their daring rescue of 46-year-old Vanessa Glover last year, when she had to hold onto a branch for an hour after being washed away by the powerful flood waters.

Team member Chris Missen was surprised when presenter Mark Wright appeared at their base in Porthcawl.

“I wasn’t expecting it to be honest… I’m just shell shocked really,” he said. “Words can’t describe, it’s really awesome. To be recognised like this is just unbelievable.
