LOCAL party man Steve Crowther has been elected to fight the general election for the United Kingdom Independence Party in North Devon.
The election took place at a crowded annual general meeting held at the Barnstaple Hotel last night (Friday).
The meeting was addressed by UKIP MEP Trevor Coleman who warned of many more EU regulations to come after Beritain's general election.
One would be an extra sales tax payable directly to the EU which would be added to bills on top of VAT, he said.

"This is the beginning of direct rule from Brussels and it is only UKIP that is prepared to fight for the right for our country to govern itsel," he claimed.
"The cost of our membership of the EU has now gone up from �45 million a day to �50 million per day and even if we wanted to be in the EU, we can't afford it.
