UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage MEP will be campaigning in North Devon on Tuesday, May 12. At the last European elections in 2004, UKIP came top of the poll in North Devon, and third nationally. On June 4 this year the party aims to come second nationally, beat Labour and trigger a challenge to Gordon Brown's leadership. Mr Farage will be visiting the new Appledore Fish Dock to meet local fishermen and make a statement on the EU fishery policies.He will also meet Bickleton and Yelland protesters on the site of a proposed three-turbine wind farm at Bickleton. Here, he will raise a 130metre-high balloon column to demonstrate how high the proposed turbines would be.In the afternoon, Mr Farage will meet shoppers in Barnstaple High Street and obtain signatures for UKIP's petition to Gordon Brown demanding a referendum on the EU Constitutional Treaty.(At 7.30pm, Mr Farage will address a public meeting at the Barnstaple Hotelentitled What's Britain'sFuture? Also speaking will be Tim Aker of the Taxpayers' Alliance and Lord Willoughby De Broke, UKIP spokesman in the House of Lords.
