Two hurt in Barnstaple explosion

TWO men have been taken to North Devon District Hospital and 30 people have been evacuated from their homes following an explosion and fire that destroyed a house in Barnstaple early this morning.

Police and emergency services were called to Trinity Street at around 4.20am following reports of a loud explosion.

The fire service have brought the blaze under control. Police believe it was linked to gas cylinders found at the property.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the Trinity Street area of Barnstaple fore the time being.
