TWO North Devon businesses have formed a joint venture to buy the agricultural machinery business of Cornwall Farmers.

A new company has been formed by long established local dealers Smallridge Brothers of Barnstaple and Robert Cole of Holsworthy to buy the machinery business, which operates from three sites in Cornwall.

The deal will not affect the Cornwall Farmers professional groundscare and domestic garden machinery sales and service business or its retail operation through its 14 Country Stores across Devon and Cornwall, including those in Bideford, Holsworthy and Hatherleigh.

"Our joint venture with Smallridge Brothers to acquire the assets of Cornwall Farmers' agricultural machinery business will create a new force in the far South West and we look forward to serving customers old and new across Devon and Cornwall," said Robert Cole after the announcement was made on Thursday.

The sale, for an undisclosed sum, is expected to be completed by November 1.
