INVESTIGATIONS are ongoing after two airmen died when their military training helicopter crashed near Torrington on Thursday afternoon.Student pilot, Lieutenant Mark Reynolds, 24, and instructor, Warrant Officer Class Two Vince Hussell, 36, were killed while flying on the final exercise of an Army pilots' course, based out of Middle Wallop in Hampshire.Their Squirrel helicopter is thought to have hit power lines near Kingscott.One crew member died at the scene, while the other was airlifted to North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple, where he later died.A spokesperson for Western Power distribution said that around 12,000 homes in the vicinity of the crash site were without power for around eight minutes after the helicopter went down. She said a further 24 homes were supplied electricity via emergency generators until Saturday when power lines were repaired.The MOD has since paid tribute to the men, saying their deaths had come as "an incredible shock to their friends and colleagues"."They will be deeply missed by their comrades at Middle Wallop and the wider Army Air Corps," said an MOD spokesperson."Our thoughts are with their families and friends at this difficult time.
