Up to 19 jobs could go as academy trust works to balance budget.

Up to 19 jobs could go at Chulmleigh Community College.

A redundancy process is under way at the college but executive head teacher Michael Johnson said front-line teaching positions would be protected.

He said the college, part of the Chulmleigh Academy Trust, was consulting with 15-19 support staff in response to changes in the way funding is organised for schools.

"Our income does not cover our expenditure, so we are having to make redundancies," Mr Johnson told the Gazette.

"We have been working hard on our budget since March.

"We are getting on with managing this difficult situation by protecting front-line teaching and the breadth of the curriculum.

"This is something that we are working together to achieve."
