IT was trick or treat time for the animals at Exmoor Zoo near Bratton Fleming as staff brought in a job lot of plump pumpkins to give them some Hallowe'en fun.

Some creatures, such as the red river hogs, were able to demolish their pumpkins whole, others proved puzzling for the highly developed primates such as the ring tailed lemurs.

The aim was to give the pumpkins as enrichment, some ate them straight off the bat, others had to work out how to get to the tasty goodies inside first and then a few simply enjoyed a workout from theirs.

Tina Reynolds at the zoo said the aim was to get the animals to use their brains or muscle's in the same way they would in the wild, hopefully giving some exercise and providing stimulation at the same time.
