Father-of-two John Spurling was killed when his open-top car was involved in a collision on Sunday.

The family of a Barnstaple man killed in a collision near Newton Tracey on Sunday has paid tribute to the father of two.

John Spurling, 58, was driving his beloved DRK car when it was involved in a collision on the B3232 at around 11.30am on Sunday.

John's family have paid tribute to him by saying: "John's tragic accident was whilst driving his three-wheeler DRK car that he had owned for nearly 20 years.

"He loved using this on fine days, enjoying the North Devon countryside.

"Unfortunately he only got to spend four years in the area but he greatly appreciated the way of life here.

"John leaves behind his wife Karen, and two daughters Ellie, 15, and Sam, 13, who were the love of his life."

John was the only occupant of the open top car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Highways attended the scene to assist with road closures.

The B3232 was closed for around five hours while a forensic examination of the scene took place.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to contact them on 101 quoting reference 293 of 24 January.
