The A361 North Devon Link Road is closed in both directions this morning (Friday) following what police are describing as a ‘serious’ collision.

Two people have been taken to hospital with 'life-threatening or changing' injuries as a result of the collision near Knowstone, South Molton, which was reported to police at 6.44am.

Emergency services, including two air ambulances, attended the single-vehicle incident, where a car came to stop in a ditch following a collision with the verge.

Firefighters attended the scene following reports that two people were trapped.

A man and a woman in their 40s were taken to Derriford hospital by air ambulance with possible life-threatening or changing injuries. The third occupant is reported to have sustained minor injuries.

Fire crews from South Molton and Tiverton, and a heavy rescue vehicle from Middlemoor, Exeter were called to the collision.

A statement from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Upon arrival they confirmed one car was within a ditch off the highway. One child was released from the car by an onlooker prior to the arrival of the emergency services.

"Two adults were extricated from the vehicle using hydraulic rescue equipment, a reciprocating saw and small tools."

The A361 reopened shortly after 1pm.
