A tractor was severely damaged by fire following a blaze at a farm near Hartland in the early hours of this morning (Friday.)

One fire crew from the village and two from Bideford attended the incident at Newton Farm just before 1am.

Two fire fighters donned breathing apparatus and used two hose jets to extinguish the flames within the outbuilding where the vehicle had been parked.

Police said the owner reported being woken at around 1am by a loud bang and looked out to see the fire 50 metres away from the house.

The exact cause has not been announced but it is thought the fire may have been started by an electrical fault.
