THE Mayor of South Molton will travel to Africa to sign an historic twinning link next month.Cllr Stephen Lock and consort Christine Lock will arrive in Accra, the capital city of Ghana, on Monday, March 9 for a week of high-profile meetings, television appearances -and even a meeting with the country's new president, John Atta Mills.While there, Cllr Lock will sign a special "Sister City" agreement with the western region of Shama at a special ceremony.Cllr Lock said he and his wife were looking forward to the visit."We hope to take a few ideas and examples to help the people of Shama to set up some cottage industries which could end up benefiting both communities," he said. Cllr Lock said that initial links between South Molton and Shama had already established a number of local exchange programmes. Some of Shama's teachers are planning to visit South Molton in a few weeks' time, while Katherine Govier, a local trainee doctor, is hoping to work in Shama's hospital for two weeks in May.
