Councillors vote to support Chamber of Commerce in its fight to get free car parking in Bideford.

Bideford Town Council will be supporting the Bideford and District Chamber of Commerce in its bid to get two hours' free parking in the town.

Last month the Gazette revealed how chamber president Maria Bailey said the fight for free parking was 'back on the agenda'.

The town council voted to support them in a bid to Torridge District Council at its meeting on Thursday.

Councillor David Brenton said: "It's not just visitors who will benefit but residents as well.

"Supermarkets have free car parking because it's commercially sound."

All councillors except one - who abstained - voted to support the chamber.
