Cargo in Barnstaple High Street is set to close, but town centre manager is confident the shop won’t be empty for long.

Town centre manager Hannah Harrington is confident that a prime retail unit in Barnstaple won’t stay empty for long.

Cargo Home Maker is set to close its High Street shop as part of a nationwide move from shops to online sales.

But Mrs Harrington is not worried about the closure.

“We do know that other national chains are looking for bigger premises,” she said.

“It is a shame that it’s closing as it’s a big unit in a prominent place.

“But it’s not closing because of the shop’s performance; it’s just a national move from the shop’s owners to remove it from the high street.

“Assuming it does become vacant we are aware that others are looking for that sort of floor space so I’m hopeful we might get someone else in quickly.”
