Torrington Town Hall has been shortlisted for a South West award following a 16-year refurbishment.

The hall, which reopened this year, has been nominated for a Construction Excellence South West Built Environment awards in the Preservation and Rejuvenation category.

Richard Rumbold, chairman of the Torrington Building's Preservation Trust, said: "It is absolutely fantastic to receive such wonderful recognition for all the hard work that involved so many people in restoring Torrington Town Hall to its former majestic glory.

"Our architects, Trewin Design Architects Ltd from Holsworthy, and local building company Westcountry Maintenance Services Ltd, have been an absolute joy to work with during this long and arduous project and the pride they have taken in their work is testament to our Town and Community Hall being short-listed for this coveted building award. "

David Tithecott, of Trewin Design Architects Limited, added: "We are pleased to have been involved in the delivery of a quality community asset to the people of Great Torrington and are delighted that the project has been recognised and shortlisted for an award."
