STRANGE and colourful characters will soon be appearing around Torrington as part of the town's annual scarecrow competition.Torrington Cavaliers are inviting residents and businesses in the area to take part in this year's fun event, to help to make the town and surrounding areas colourful throughout the summer. Cavalier Dick Matthews said: "We're grateful for the sponsorship from George Wimpey, who are currently building homes in the town. It will hopefully enable us to make a profit on the event, which will go into our charity pot for future distribution to good causes."The scarecrow competition runs from now until August 25. There are three classes of entry: private (£5), business (£10) and schools (free). Entry forms and full competition rules are available from the offices of Tattersalls Property Management in Castle Street, or from the Cavaliers website at www.torrington-cavaliers.co.ukJudging will take place towards the end of August.
