Investigations to assess the possibility of further landslips on the A386 between Bideford and Torrington are still ongoing.Temporary traffic lights remain in place near Weare Giffard following landslips at Beam Quarry and Downes House earlier this month. The 30-tonne bank slip at Beam Quarry on November 12 brought down five large trees, causing the road to be closed for six days. A county council spokesperson said the council was still working on solutions at both sites. Traffic lights remain in place at those two locations and as yet we have no firm dates for further work on either of these two sites. The Gazette has also learned that the A386 will be closed between Torrington and Landcross for 10 weeks from January 4. The work is not related to either landslip but is being carried out to build a new retaining wall to stop subsidence between the Landcross sign and the Tarka Tunnel. The council is yet to release details of the diversion route but said further closures to complete the work would be required at a later date.
