A Torrington dentist has been elected as the next dean of the UK’s only professional body for general dental practice.
Ian Mills, a partner at Torrington Dental Practice, has been elected as the next dean of the faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) and will take up his position at the Royal College of Surgeons in June 2018.
Ian, who lives in Winkleigh, said: “It will be an enormous privilege to lead the UK’s only professional body dedicated to general dental practice.
“The faculty has a very important role to play in promoting high standards of patient care within dentistry.
“This has become increasingly important, particularly within the NHS, and I hope that my breadth of experience within the profession can be put to good use.”
Ian originally qualified in Glasgow but has lived and worked in North Devon for the last 24 years.
He established Torrington Dental Practice in 1997 and has seen it grow from a single surgery practice in the beginning to a large award winning referral centre with 11 dentists and more than 30 staff.
In addition to his clinical practice, Ian has worked at Peninsula Dental School since it was established and has been closely involved in the undergraduate programme as a clinical supervisor, group facilitator and honorary lecturer.
