MOVES to take Torridge District Council closer to its public by holding full meetings in towns and villages outside of Bideford, are among changes being recommended for adoption tonight (Thursday).

The council is holding an extraordinary meeting to consider the adoption of a new constitution and meeting schedule.

It has plans to introduce a new committee structure from its annual general meeting next Monday.

The basis of the new structure would be a Community and Resources Committee, an Audit and Governance Committee and two Overview and Scrutiny Committees.

In addition, the council has resolved to change the way in which the full council operates. This includes holding full meetings in towns and villages outside Bideford and having regular debates and presentations.

The changes have been proposed to try to ensure that the full council becomes more interesting to visiting members of the public.
