AN important Torridge homeless charity has said that it has had to make a "change of direction" to ensure its long-term survival. While Torridge Poverty Action Group (TPAG) diners at Westward Ho! Baptist Church Hall and at St Mary's in Bideford will continue, the drop in centre at Queen Street will become a crisis support centre on an appointment only basis. The charity will continue to supply food and clothing to vulnerable people in the Torridge and is still welcoming donations of non - perishable food, clothing, tents and sleeping bags.Peter Jennings, TPAG manager, said that a lack of funding meant the charity would have to develop closer working relationships with other local agencies. He said: "TPAG is an important part of the work that goes into protecting vulnerable people across Torridge. "The move into a more targeted support area will help TPAG review its longer term priorities and help the charity develop a wider range of project funding opportunities."After April 1, contact with the charity can be made by telephoning (01237) 472437 or via email at tpag1@tiscali.co.uk. The office will be staffed Monday to Thursday 9am to 1pm There will also be an emergency number linked to the answer phone system.
