The Government has announced a new round of funding for coastal communities and councils, businesses and charities can apply.

Torridge District Council is 'assessing projects' which could apply for a new £90million Government funding boost.

Government ministers announced the new funding for coastal communities yesterday (Wednesday).

Councils, businesses and charities can apply for grants of between £50,000 and £4million to create jobs, boost skills or open opportunity.

Announcing the funding yesterday, communities secretary Greg Clark said: "Our Great British Coast has enormous economic potential and we are determined to see it thrive all year round.

"That's why we're investing £90 million in exciting new business ideas across our much-loved seaside areas - bringing not just a wave of enthusiasm but also creating thousands of good new jobs too.

"And with grants of up to £4million each available, I'd urge our coastal entrepreneurs and communities to get involved."

Torridge District Council leader Jane Whittaker said: "Torridge has previously submitted successful applications for much needed infrastructure repairs following storm damage in 2013/14.

"This resulted in the refurbishment and repair of some of the areas iconic landmarks such as the Rockpool at Westward Ho! and the quay at Bucks Mill.

"We are now in the process of assessing further projects that fall within the scope of the funding announced this week."

Bids for the latest round of funding will close on June 30. Find out more about the fund and how to apply here.
