IAN Thomson, the National President of Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland, is visiting North Devon on Wednesday and Thursday this week.He will be visiting Calvert Trust Exmoor at Blackmoor Gate to see the benefits of the relationship between the Rotary Clubs, Carewise, the organisation for Young Carers, and Calvert Trust Exmoor for the Young Carers in the region.During his tour he will experience some of the activities that are arranged for the young people which, unbeknown to him, will include abseiling and the zipwire! The Rotary Club of Barnstaple Link arranged an activity taster day in 2005 at Calvert Trust Exmoor, which proved so successful that there are now nine Rotary clubs involved. The clubs have set up a bursary fund with Calvert Trust Exmoor, the well known outdoor activity centre in North Devon for people with disability This fund enables Carewise to book places for activity weekends in advance. The bursary means both charities are the beneficiaries and participating clubs also benefit by working together. The president will be the guest of the Barnstaple club during his visit and will be hosted by George Kempton the District Governor, a member of the Barnstaple Club."We are hoping that after the visit Ian will promote the Young Carer scheme nationally as a Youth Opportunities Project and encourage other Rotary Clubs to establish links with their locally based Young Carers Projects", said George. The President will also be visiting Okehampton on Thursday to visit and tour facilities used for Rotary Youth Leadership Association.
