NORTH Devon Council is appealing for help to find those responsible for vandalising a toilet for the disabled in Barnstaple's Rock Park. The incident took place between 6pm on Saturday and 8am on Sunday.Vandals smashed tiles, broke the disabled support bar, smashed the emergency warning light and ripped out the pull cord, as well as stealing the jumbo toilet roll holder and damaging the hi-tec handwash/drier unit beyond repair. The total repair bill is between 1,500 and 2,000.The police have been informed and CCTV footage from the on-site camera is being examined.Portfolio Holder for Waste and Recycling, Councillor Rodney Cann said: "This unnecessary act of destruction by selfish individuals is going to cause great inconvenience to disabled users and cost the public a lot of money in repairs. If anyone has any information about this then I urge you to come forward."The council hopes to repair most of the damage as quickly as possible, but some of the equipment has to be specially ordered and may take some time to arrive. The toilet for the disabled also houses baby-changing facilities, which are now out of action, inconveniencing the many families who use the park's popular play area.If anyone has information about this incident they are urged to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or the local police on 08452 777444.
