THE people of Barnstaple have been urged to make it a better place to live this April by grabbing brooms, buckets and paint brushes as Tidy Up Our Town week returns. The event from April 20-25 follows on the success of the first one last year, organised by Barnstaple Town Council's environment committee. It will give organisations, residents and businesses the chance to join in with community projects to improve their environment and surroundings, making Barnstaple a better place to live, work and visit. An open evening on Thursday at the Castle Centre was well attended by local people, businesses and voluntary groups."I was very encouraged by the numbers of people who turned up and the enthusiasm they showed for the event," said the chairman, Councillor Rod Hawes."A number of environmental issues were raised, which hopefully will now be addressed during our Tidy Up week in April."Anyone interested in holding a clean up event in their own neighbourhood or supporting the project can contact Tracey Weaver at the Barnstaple Town Council offices in Barum House on (01271) 373311 or email tracey.weaver@barnstapletowncouncil.co.uk.
