PLANS for a Bideford Town Band practice pavilion with performance deck in Victoria Park have failed to get approval from the district council's planning committee.

The proposal is to create the pavilion on the site of former toilets on the southern edge of the park, alongside the Burton Art Gallery, with the performance deck extending into the park.

But while the committee had no objection to the site itself, it was felt that the submitted design was "not in keeping with the setting."

The modern design included mono-pitched and rolled-steel sections of roof, providing ground floor accommodation and a first-floor store. Large amounts of glazing were included to provide natural light.
