One car rolled off the A39 and ended up in a field this morning (Monday) as police report 12 accidents since 6am.

Fire fighters have been called out to three separate collisions this morning (Monday) as police warned motorists to beware of icy conditions.

At 6.36am a crew from Chulmleigh attended a single vehicle collision on the A377, and made the vehicle safe after finding nobody trapped in it.

Some 20 minutes later, a Bideford crew was called to the A39 at Horns Cross to find a vehicle had rolled onto its roof.

Crews arrived at 6.53am to find the car had rolled off the road and was in a field, but nobody was trapped in the vehicle.

And at 8.37am crews from Torrington and Bideford were called to a collision at Stibbs Cross, Torrington.

They found all people free and clear of the vehicles and made the road safe using environmental packs.

Devon and Cornwall Police said on Twitter: “Numerous accidents being reported by commuter traffic, due to black ice. Delays expected so plan time for your journey and drive carefully.”

Since 6am police reported there had been 12 reports of accidents across the force area.
