Police step up patrols after West Down and Southmead targeted

Thousands of pounds in lead has been stolen from the roofs of two local schools.

In the early hours of Monday, July 18 lead was taken from West Down School and more removed on Wednesday, July 20 – this was rolled up ready to take away but was left behind.

Around £5,000 in lead was taken from Southmead Primary School in Braunton between 4pm Thursday, July 21 and 2pm Monday, July 25.

PCSO Andy Frisby at Braunton said police would be increasing patrols: “This is an unusual crime for this area. We are appealing to the public to report any suspicious activity near to schools or places of worship immediately on 999

“If anyone saw persons hanging around these location before or during the stated times please call us on 101 stating the crime numbers.”
