Barnstaple Library sees one of its most regular visitors, Paul Giffney, launch his second book, Let Memory Be Green on Saturday, September 23.

Offering a discount to all purchasers with a library card, the 10th Bard of Northampton explained that 'libraries have always been a key part of my life. Ever since I was a child, I’ve prized the power that the free access to books has given people. This is a small way I can say thank you to all the hard work that every librarian does!'

Working closely with the library staff, Paul can be found in the foyer during the morning whilst, in the library, the University of Derby's Creative Writing alumna Emma Ward is running a workshop on ‘Discovering postmodern writing’.

This is followed by the Barnstaple’s very own ‘Poetry Corner’ that are meeting in the library at 2pm where, alongside other local poets, Paul will be reading his work.

‘Let Memory Be Green’ is Paul’s second book of poetry; the first, Take It As Red sold out its first run within a month. Both books examine themes of health, personal development and combine them with mythology and story, with this second book taking a focused look at Devon and its effect on the childhood of the poet.

“Some poetry is meant to be read and reflected on, while other poetry is meant to be shared and declared. Somehow Paul manages to do both.” – Andy Robb, author.
