THIEVES caused thousands of pounds worth of damage when they broke in to a Hatherleigh garage and stole money from a cash machine.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which occurred at around 3.15 am on Wednesday.
The thieves forced their way through a secure double glazed door at the Bridge Street garage and tried to remove and smash the ATM from the wall. A sum of cash was stolen.
An axe and a crowbar were found at the scene.

Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Bridge Street or who may have heard or seen anything suspicious to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
Investigations are continuing and no arrests have been made.
