Combe Martin couple create a DIY guide to improving the mechanics of your life

A DIY manual to help people ‘motor’ on towards a better life has been written by a Combe Martin couple.

Do-it-Yourself Life Mechanics is a ‘Haynes style’ diagnostic book written by life coaches Keith and Gilly Pugsley, designed to help people tinker with their lives to achieve their goals.

It is based on the idea that lives are like machines or a motor car, with components that need to be working together to make a fulfilling life.

Examples include the ‘occupational engine’, ‘relationship gearbox’ and ‘financial fuel tank’.

Retired solicitor Keith and former youth unemployment worker Gilly moved to North Devon several years ago and set up their life coaching business, beginning with friends and moving on to private clients.

Keith, who was born in Ilfracombe, said: “This is a workshop manual about how to get your life, or anyone’s life, back on track.

“If you ask most people what they would like to do with their life, it’s too big a question, but if you ask if they’re happy where they live, that’s fixable.”

Gilly added: “You can just dip into the bit you want, so if you just need to tweak something, you can.”

The book is available from Amazon.com, Waterstones, WH Smiths and various bookshops.
