The Best of British in Bideford

BIDEFORD carnival will next year celebrate The Best of British as a tribute to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the forthcoming Olympics and other national events.

“We have chosen the theme for this special year and feel it will provide an opportunity for people to reflect all aspects of British life,” said committee member Pat Humphries.

The announcement was made at the hand-over of cash raised for charity causes at this year’s carnival at a presentation ceremony at Bideford Amateur Rowing Club.

There was 1,500 for Devon Air Ambulance, 200 for Bideford St John Ambulance, 100 for Bideford Town Band and, as usual, hampers will also be provided for Bideford Hospital at Christmas.

“Despite the rain at the start, it was a very successful carnival and we thank all those who helped and those who made donations,” said Pat.
