NCS Team 3 has been hard at work in the gardens of Westmead House

Young people have pulled out all the stops to transform the garden at Westmead House in Braunton.

Team 3 or ‘Happy Campers’ completed the work as part of their National Citizen Service (NCS) summer programme.

After visiting Westmead – which cares for adults with severe disabilities – the team were keen to choose the Leonard Cheshire home for their community work.

After fundraising they completely cleared the garden, built and planted new raised beds and painted everything, with all plants, colours and textures chosen by the residents.

Numerous NCS teams are currently working around the area.

The Government funded project is a four week course for 16 and 17-year-olds, with two weeks residential and then working on a social project to help their community or a local good cause.
