Police are appealing for information following the robbery on the evening of April 5

Police have launched an investigation after a 17-year-old girl was robbed in a Bideford street.

The girl was walking in an alley behind Geneva Court between 8.15pm and 8.30pm on Wednesday, April 5, when she was approached from behind by two people.

The Bideford girl was grabbed and pinned to the ground as the two rifled through her pockets and removed her jacket.

The offenders, who covered the victim's eyes throughout the attack, made off with just £13 cash and some tobacco, leaving the girl with very shaken and with minor injuries.

Police are asking for anyone who witnessed the incident or saw anyone suspicious entering or running from the alley at the time of the offence to contact them.

Detective Constable Stephen Bates, from Bideford CID, said: "This incident was extremely upsetting for the victim who has been left very distressed.

"We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity in the area at the time or has any information about this incident."
