A group of Torridge teenagers have been meeting every week since October to make a documentary film about the coast of North Devon. The group, based at Westward Ho! Youth Club, will continue their work until October this year to produce a film with the aim of showing people the exciting and unique attractions of the coast of Bideford Bay. The film Potwallopers and Ponies includes interviews with residents who have historical connections with Northam Burrows or other areas of the coast. Filming takes place on location on Northam Burrows, Westward Ho! and the coast paths around the bay. The young people have already visited Greencliffe, Abbotsham cliffs and have walked along the banks of the Torridge to capture images. Forthcoming trips for 2009 include excursions and guided walks to Saunton Sands and Braunton Burrows, Clovelly, Bucks Mills, Hartland and the group will also be spending three nights on Lundy in June. The project, which is funded by The Heritage Lottery, will continue until October this year. The film is being edited as the project progresses and the first short items will soon be available on the internet as reference material to be shared by the North Devon community. Photographs are also being collected and marked as reference material so that images of the North Devon Coast can be made available as a free teaching resource for all.The young film makers want to make a lasting archive for the community and intend to make a final DVD available for schools and community groups. They would be delighted to speak with anyone who has any stories they would be willing to share. The film aims to cover every aspect of living near the coast of Bideford Bay, so they want to speak to trawlermen, shipbuilders, ramblers, conservationists, surfers, golfers and anyone willing to share their knowledge of the coastline. The group is also keen to meet new members aged 13 years and over who may wish to get involved in film making. They meet at the youth club in Golf Links Road every Monday and Thursday 4.30pm-6.30pm and Sunday, 2pm-4pm.Contact jane@seize-the-moment.net for more information about the film or call Seize the Moment on 07773 679559
