Firefighters were called out at 5.51am after the vehicle fire in front of the building

A taxi caught fire outside North Devon District Hospital early this morning.

Firefighters from Barnstaple was called out to reports of a vehicle on fire at the front of the building at 5.51am.

They used breathing apparatus and a hose-reel jet to extinguish the fire, and checked the vehicle with a thermal imaging camera.

The fire had started behind the glove box on the passenger side of the car, and was accidental.
