Switch off risks

SIR - I am writing to you regarding the switching off of the street lights at 12am. i think it is a completely ludicrous idea certainly when only last year two people were seriously assaulted in the town. and the idea that this is for the enviroment is ridiculous.

It is a money saving scheme that is putting people in danger, some of them being vulnerable people. There has to come a point when money saving ideas or environmentally friendly ideas should be assessed against risk of safety towards the general public and i think the risk is far too high.

If something serious does happen, and i think it’s sadly innevitable that it will, I hope the council will think twice about this idea, but it might be too late by then for someone.

Bideford
