A NUMBER of organisations across North Devon are rallying together to provide help and support to those made redundant at Leaderflush Shapland.
North Devon Council is co-ordinating an information event at the beginning of next week. It involves a variety of agencies that can advise the workers on their options for the future.
Support on offer includes how to claim benefits, how to retrain in another skill, advice on starting your own business, how to create a CV, help with form-filling and how to go about job hunting.
The key aim is to get the most appropriate support and information to the people who have lost their jobs, as soon as possible.
The organisations coming along to offer help are, Job Centre+; North Devon and Torridge councils (housing benefits); Business Link; Tax credits; Pensions Service; North Devon College; Pathfinder; Citizens Advice; Scribes; Barnstaple Poverty Action Group; South West Pound Credit Union; and North Devon Voluntary Services.
North Devon Council executive director, Steve Pitcher, said: "We feel desperately sorry for those that have lost their jobs and our hearts go out to them and their families.
"We are happy to be able to support this event and are pleased that so many organisations have offered to come along to help the people who have been made redundant.
"We are also heartened to hear that the company is committed to remaining in Barnstaple as it is such a crucial player in the local economy."
Leaderflush Shapland Director Robert Llewellyn added: "Any redundancy and consultation process is concerning and upsetting for all involved. However, this event aims to help people focus on the future and I thank all the agencies involved for providing this support at this difficult time."
The event is being held on Monday (June 1) from 10am-4pm and is open to all the staff that have been made redundant.
