MORE than 60 tasty brews from near and far await thirsty real ale fans when they visit the second great North Devon Beer Festival, beginning tomorrow (Thursday) at North Devon Leisure Centre in Barnstaple. There is a heavy emphasis on beer from North Devon, but there are also samples from a bit further away, including, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.Organised by Barum Brewery in Pilton, together with Parkwood Leisure and with support from North Devon Council, this year the festival will be based downstairs at the leisure centre, where the cafe bar area will also be open as normal.Proceeds from the event will once again go to the Devon Air Ambulance, with 10 pence from every pint sold going to the charity. On Saturday upstairs there will be a number of radio controlled "boys' toys" on offer for punters to play with between pints! There is live music, too, with local musician Brendan Taylor holding an open mic night on Friday from 8pm. On Saturday gypsy jazz quartet Shine will be playing from 8.30pm.The festival is open from 6-11pm tomorrow; 3-11pm Friday; all day Saturday and from midday-6pm on Sunday.
