SIR - My wife and I are just back from a really enjoyable new year in Appledore.

While there, my wife suffered a bout of unconsciousness in the Seagate Hotel.

Within a few minutes of a phone call to the emergency services an ambulance arrived and the two men on board from the moment they arrived were the epitome of professionalism, kindness and attentiveness. putting my 66-year-old wife at her ease before and while treating her.

It made us both realise that people who slate the NHS are forgetting one thing that, despite any failings within the service itself, the staff are dedicated. This is not a job to the two lads on board, but a long-term commitment to caring for people who need help in an emergency and are frightened. We would like to thank both of them very much for all they did on the night.

We would also like to thank not only the staff of the hotel, but also all the kind people who were there when my wife fainted and who asked after her well being when she was taken to the ambulance.
